Filming Abroad... Amids work contracted in the past, some required certain 'dynamics' in order to get the job done. For example, in the Congo, being caught filming without proper papers could land you in jail as a spy and without proper military excort, in pretty 'hot' situation. In Auschwitz, without a 'press' clearance would equal to no access to the Main Event. In the Philippines as well as in the Congo and India, the heat was a constant threat to your equipment and if you quench your thirst with their water well ...it's lights out! When in Donetsk (Former Russia), during the 9-11 tragedy, the problem there was parts. If your equipment needed anything at all, you were in bad shape. Your entire shooting plans were jeopardised. These are some of the interesting things you go through when filming abroad and in Third World locations. In India, a key grip person was paramount or who knows on what you would be stepping onto or into. We shoot by the Airport there in Mumbai and in the ghettos and well, ...life is full of surprises to put it mildly. Amidst all of this, there is no greater reward than to have travelled places as such and experience the lives and culture of the people in their daily lives, in their homes and where they work.
